Fishing Derby

A local fishing group is hosting a bass fishing tournament! Each participant will get to go on a boat with a fishing guide at a local lake. Young adults will learn the age-old skill of fishing in the Walton/Bay county area. We’ll have the old-timers here to help the young adults learn the tricks of the trade. Best of all, every young adult will go home with a fishing pole and a tackle box.

Contact us if you know a young adult that should attend this event or if you would like to volunteer.

30A 10K Race and Fun Run

30A 10K is an officially sanctioned 10K and 5K run as well as a 1-mile fun run on Thanksgiving morning. Burn off those calories and get ready to eat and relax. It Takes The Town supports this event by volunteering to staff the many functions leading up to event and on race day. 30A 10K also generously shares some of the proceeds with local non-profits—like us!

Please support this event in the following ways:

  • Sign up to run in the event. Awards include male and female prizes for overall, masters and grandmasters winners. We also go three deep in the following age groups for the 10k and 5k: Under 10, 11-14, 15-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75-79, and 80+

  • Contact us to volunteer to help. 30A 10K depends on 200 amazing people to come together and make this event a success for our 3000+ runners and spectators. From Packet Pickup on Wednesday to the end of the Post Race Party on Thursday, there are specific shifts and duties for anyone willing to lend a helping hand. Volunteering for the 30A 10K is a great way to give back with family and friends during the Thanksgiving Day holidays!

The Gift of Giving

The Gift of Giving

There are numerous organizations that provide opportunities for our children and young adults to get Christmas gifts for themselves. The Gift of Giving is uniquely designed to give our children and young adults the opportunity to shop for their siblings, care-givers, and friends. Each child will be given $150 to shop for others, not themselves. We also set up a gift wrapping station, so each child goes home with wrapped gifts that they bought.

In 2023, we were able to support 20 children… how many can we do this year with your support?

Go here if you know of a child that needs help or if you would like to volunteer.

Fishing Derby and Bonfire

Ever put a shrimp on a hook? Ever reeled in that big redfish? At this event, young adults will learn the age-old skill of fishing in the Walton County area. We’ll have the old-timers here to help the young adults learn the tricks of the trade. Best of all, every young adult will go home with a fishing pole.

During the event for the fishers and non-fishers alike, we’ll have a bonfire with hotdogs and smores.

Contact us if you know a young adult that should attend this event or if you would like to volunteer.

Dining Out

Dining Out

Young adults need to know proper dining etiquette. Did you ever sit down and wonder what you should say to a server? What should you do with all those forks? Where does that crazy cloth napkin go? At this event, young adults will learn how to interact with dining staff and fellow dining guests at a formal dining event. This skill is important to avoid embarrassing situations in the future.

Rest easy, as the restaurant venue will be in full support of the learning activity.

Following the learning activity, participants will be introduced to career opportunities in the food industry.

Contact us if you know of a young adult that needs to attend or you’re interested in volunteering.
